Dear Members and Supporters,
As the leaves change and we move into the holiday season, we are reminded of the power of community and the impact we can make together. Since our last newsletter, Women United has continued to drive positive change in Southern Maine. Here are some highlights and upcoming events to keep you informed and engaged.
Recent Highlights
Fall Gathering Success
On October 15, nearly 90 members and supporters attended the Women United Fall Gathering to celebrate our collective achievements. We announced investments totaling $259,700 in local programs that advance single mothers and their children. Read more about the event and our program partners on United Way of Southern Maine’s blog and see photos on UWSM’s Facebook page.
Women United at Conferences
I recently attended the Women Uniting for Good Conference in Baltimore, which brought together Women United programs from all over the world. It was truly inspiring to learn innovative strategies from other United Ways and to share the great work that Women United has done in our community.
Our dedicated volunteer Joy Symon Fall represented Women United at the Maine Women’s Conference. We are proud to be a community partner of the Maine Women’s Conference, and it was wonderful to connect with members of our community.
Community Partner News
Victoria Morales, executive director of Quality Housing Coalition, a WU program partner, recently spoke on Maine Calling about the housing challenges single mothers face when lack of child care impedes their ability to enter the workforce. Women United investments are critical for supporting Quality Housing Coalition’s work to keep families safe and housed. (Nakesha Warren, United Way of Southern Maine’s homeless services hub coordinator for Cumberland County, is also featured at 18:00!)

Since 2017, Women United has invested over $1.2 million into our community, thanks to the generous support of our members and corporate partners like the John T. Gorman Foundation, Hannaford Supermarkets, MEMIC, WEX, and KeyBank.
We invite you to continue your support and involvement with Women United. Whether through contributions, volunteering, or attending events, your participation makes a difference. Together, we can create a brighter future for single mothers and their children in Southern Maine.
